How about the city climate in 2050? – a festival in Arnhem (NL)
In the first weekend of October the ‘Future City Festival’ was organised in Arnhem (NL). Aim of the 3 day Festival was to step into the city of the future. Inhabitants of Arnhem could see and experience transport, energy production and city climate of the year 2050. Besides electric and hydrogen cars visitors could find all information about solar energy, reducing energy demand and sustainable building. Also the city climate in 2050 was an item. In 2050 Arnhem will encounter in summer more hot days and severe rainfall. Visitors could enter a specially made ‘climate house’ and get to know everything about the effects of climate change and how to keep their house and direct surroundings liveable. Besides a video, visitors could look for their house on a giant Heat Map of Arnhem. The discussion with visitors showed that the residents of Arnhem are well aware of the effects of climate change and heat in the city. The ongoing communication about the Future Cities activities clearly did have an effect!
