Innovation exchange building ENVIRO 21: exhibition and demonstration site, UK

The Hastings & Bexhill Task Force is a partnership, formed in 2002 by the South East England Development Agency with a range of local partners, to agree a 10-year regeneration programme for these two South Coast towns. The task force was set up as a direct outcome of the Government rejecting the proposed Hastings and Bexhill bypass and seeking a comprehensive regeneration for the local economy. Hastings & Bexhill Renaissance Ltd (trading as Sea Space) was set up by the Task Force in 2003, under the Regional Development Agency's powers as the "delivery vehicle" to implement the business plan agreed by the Task Force.

The Enviro21 Centre - Future Cities project is strategically aligned with the Hastings and Bexhill Five Point Plan for regeneration which focuses on:

1.     Urban renaissance - reuse of town centre derelict sites and buildings, creating new architecture, public spaces and buildings.

2.     Business and Enterprise - stimulating business innovation, enterprise, creativity and technology transfer to create well paid jobs.

3.     Excellence in Higher Education - education-led regeneration to improve standards and expand higher education.

4.     Broadband - helping companies make best use of the latest Internet technology.

5.     Transport - lobbying and supporting improvements to the road, bus and rail networks.
