More decentralised solutions are green roofs and the infiltration of rainwater into the soil. On a roof area of 14,000 m² green roofs are possible on a high probability; other roofs have to be checked first. Because of the high area-usage only underground infiltration systems which have to be passable for trucks can be implemented. New hedges in the street system (750 m) can protect the pavement and buildings against exhausting fumes.
With the implementation of these measures, the neighbourhood relationship between the companies will be strengthened. Therefore, measures should be preferred which have to be realized by more than one company (e.g. rainwater collecting in company A and rainwater usage in company B). By this, the companies sense of responsibility for their surroundings should be improved (not just a work place) which will result in positive effects for the environment. The measures should be made visible for employees and the public to raise awareness how to handle climate change. By operating throughout Europe, the companies will carry out the sustainable image and the idea to their partners.
A drafting of an expert's report will be started in early 2009. After an evaluation of suggested measures, an implementation will start not later than 2010.
This project is a cooperation project of Emschergenossenschaft and the municipality of Bottrop.
