- Cold and heat storage in Tiel (East) in relation to local groundwater pollution and groundwater fluctuation
- Self supporting houses in the floodplains
Investigation water adapted development Tiel East (2008)
- Which measures can be taken to solve groundwater and seepage water problems in Tiel East in the existing urban areas and the new development sites?
- How can we build in the flood plains without causing obstructions for the river?
- How can we build climate proof, preventing wet feet?
B. Concepts and plans
Green roofs in an existing industrial area: Latenstein (2008/2009)
- What effect can green roofs have on the air quality in Tiel East?
- Can green roofs reduce volume and peak rates of storm water?
- Can the roofs of the existing buildings be transformed in green roofs?

First results
The first investigations on water and energy have been executed. The investigations on water have resulted in an integral scenario for water for the next 20 years, consisting of several technical measures (wadi's, green roofs, extension of existing waterway's, etc.) and innovative design principles (climate dike, wadi's, multiple use of space, etc.)
The investigation on energy has show that there are good possibilities for cold and heat storage ad geothermal energy in Tiel East. Another investigation has shown that cold and heat storage can even contribute to lowering the groundwater levels locally.
The challenge that now lays ahead of us is to combine these results in an integral (re)development of Tiel East, in close cooperation with all the other participants in Tiel East, like project developers, housing corporations, inhabitants, regional and national authorities, etc.)
