Sustainable development of a business site in Bottrop, DE
The Emscher catchment has a size of 865 km2 and 2.3 Mio. inhabitants (2.700 inhabitants/km²) and is one of the most densely populated regions throughout Europe. The Emschergenossenschaft is a self-managed public association and as such a non-profit company which is controlled by its members.
Since 1926 the Emschergenossenschaft works together with the Lippeverband. Both water boards are based on special legislation with the tasks
- elimination of sewage / treatment of domestic and industrial waste water
- flood protection and stormwater management
- maintenance and ecological development of water bodies
- supply of process and industrial water
- management of drainage- and sewage systems
- treatment of sewage sludge
